    Excavator with flail mower attachment

We recently acquired a new flail mower attachment for the excavator. This handy unit allows us to use the versatile boom on the excavator to mow and trim anything within the excavator's reach. This mower instantly turns plant matter into mulch. It can even mulch up whole trees, as you can see in the video above.

  • What's A Flail Mower

Perhaps you're wondering what a flail mower is. Think of the paper shredder in your office. It's sort of like a really big and powerful version of that. It has a rotating cylinder inside that cover. Mounted on that cylinder are rows and rows of hook-like teeth with a sharpened cutting edge. The centrifugal force of the rapidly rotating cylinder gives each hinged tooth a lot of momentum. When the teeth come into contact with something, they slice right through it, turning it into chunks. That's why it's a good idea to keep this away from people. We don't want to turn people into mulch.

  • Why Would You Need A Flail Mower?

The best applications for the flail mower usually involve wooded areas or the edges of fields where tree lines are encroaching. The mechanics of this mower make it an ideal tool for clearing paths through a forest or trimming back areas of overgrowth. The flail mower is also handy for smaller areas that are covered in grass and shrubs where a nicely finished look is desired. A standard bush hog attachment can mow a large area efficiently, but usually leaves a bit of a rougher looking finish. The flail mower, however, leaves a smooth looking finish to grassy areas.

Bottom line: No matter what your mowing needs are, we have the right tool for the job. Contact us today for a free estimate for your next mowing project.
